Power couple Laura Chasman and John Christian are making a switch from painter and sculptor to sculptor and painter.

John Christian Anderson says, “Over the past five years I have been making abstract constructions that were somewhere between painting and sculpture. I started exploring traditional painting, looking at more literal imagery like landscapes and objects in my immediate environment. Currently, these two distinctly separate styles now coexist in my current work.” 

Well known as a painter, Laura Chasman says, “After 50 years of working exclusively with paint, a three-hour workshop in Oaxaca in 2023 revealed the pleasures of working with clay. The physicality, the texture, how responsive the clay was to touch and the simplicity of working with one medium was so appealing. I work with unfired or self-hardening clay so that the raw texture of these forms is not lost.”
